Not in a childish « are we there yet » way : I am perfectly aware that it is the nature of open-source, volunteer-based projects to have « when it's done » style release dates. But time is passing by and I have no visibility on the release date.Īnd that's the reason I would like to ask about the roadmap of the project. I therefore took the decision to wait for the release of 1.6 to migrate : using the occasion to do major rewrites taking advantage of all the new features in one fell swoop (and holding major changes until that time). Last year, I briefly experimented the 1.5.5 but quickly ran into several problems, nothing major (mainly interface) but enough to discourage a massive switch of all my important files.

The worst case scenario would be to make some important edits over a few months and then run into a problem necessitating a rollback to 1.4.9 using an old file, therefore losing all the work done after the switch. Hence, I am very reluctant to switch to the the 1.5.x branch as that would render my files incompatible with the 1.4.9 version I am using (built from svn sources). We're talking of important revisions several times a year on 100+ pages documents with complex layouts and pictures (you can imagine how switching from LibreOffice made me gain a lot of time). My use case is a bit specific : I seldom write new documents but I often edit old ones. I am an amateur RPG writer and managing large, complex documents with LibreOffice had become a serious burden : Scribus has markedly improved my quality of life in that respect. Since discovering Scribus a few years ago, this project has rapidly become one of my favourite software.
